Simon Mayoye, based in Nairobi Kenya is a Network Architect for SEACOM which operates a global IP/MPLS backbone as well as submarine cable systems between Africa, Europe and the Asia Pacific. With over 10 years in Service provider space, current responsibilities are Planning/Building/Expansion of the SEACOM Global IP/MPLS as well as provide Peering strategy & policy for the network. Simon is involved in various community organizations such as tzNOG, AfNOG in capacity as an Instructor. He is a strong supporter of good Netizenship to keep the internet clean.
Michelle Opiyo has over eight years of experience in the Network Services Provider Industry. She attained her BSc in electronic and computer engineering from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology. Michelle currently serves as a Senior Network Engineer at Workonline Communications. Prior to joining Workonline, she served in various capacities at the national research and education network of Kenya (KENET) where she operated the core network and delivered tailor-made solutions to top Universities and Research Institutions. Her core skills are in network design, implementation and operation, capacity building and community development. She is passionate about developing the African Internet connectivity landscape and opening it up to the world, as well as developing the abilities of engineers on the continent. To this end, Opiyo volunteers as a trainer for various regional technical forums and network operator groups (NOGs) where she trains and mentors engineers.
Samuel has 10 years’ experience working with internet in the Telecommunications and ISP industry. He specializes in IP Networks, Internet connectivity for Mobile devices, Home and Business Customers. He is passionate about evolving technologies hand harnessing the power of the internet to connect people and things.
Tyrus Muya Kamau is an Information Security professional with 13 years experience in the field. He is a Principal Consultant at Euclid Consultancy Ltd, a cyber security company which he started 3 years ago where he runs it full time. He specializes on Signaling security, Penetration Testing and Research & Development in Cyber Security, Training and Awareness and Compliance. Prior to starting his own company, Tyrus held various leadership positions in the industry including the Africa Head of IT Security; Airtel Money at Bharti Airtel and Group Head of IT Security at Cellulant Group. He was a key consultant in the development of the National Cyber Security Master Plan (NSCMP) working with Booz Allen & Hamilton and the former ICT Board. His input saw him work with various intergovernmental bodies in line with the country’s Vision 2030. The Master Plan was launched by H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, in February 2014. Tyrus was also a part time lecturer at Strathmore University’s iLab for 3 years where he instructed the Masters in Telecommunication, Innovation & Development. In addition he also conducts hands on training on cyber security under his firm usually with the mLab and iHub. Tyrus was also involved in a training organized by Interpol on Prosecuting Cyber crimes as well as ISOC’s training on cyber security and Internet Freedom. He has also contributed significantly to matters cyber security in the form of articles, publications and cyber security reports.
Mercy Njue is the founder of Botlab. She has an MBA, and a Degree in Business & technology from Africa Nazarene University. She is also trained in GDPR by university of groningen, BI specialist and is cloud certified trained by IBM, data science for business leaders by Data incubator- Chicago. She has 8 years of experience working in Kenya and US in different capacities.
Hezron Mwangi is a ICT Professional with over eight years of experience in the ISP Industry. Hezron works for the Kenya Education Network Trust (KENET), the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya as a Senior Systems Administrator in charge of Data Centre Operations. Hezron Specialises in Data Centre Services, Storage, Routing and Switching, Capacity Building and Security. His core skills include Design, Implementation and Running of Scalable Internet Services, Network Management and Monitoring, Virtualization and Cloud Platforms, SAN and NAS Storage Systems.
Eric Magutu has over 10 years of experience in systems and network engineering. He joined Safaricom as a Senior Network Administrator in 2010, and is currently a Core Network Engineer handling mobile and internet traffic. He holds industry certifications in networks, linux, cloud, storage and project management. Eric has expert knowledge in network architecture, IT business consulting and linux/unix systems.
Washington Odhiambo has more than 20 years of experience in the ISP industry and has been very active in growing the local tech community in Kenya. Washington currently works as an independent ICT consutant in the fields of Systems Intergration/Security.
Martha is the founder of Sedona Mondiale, a Kenyan-based consultancy firm within the ICT space. Prior to full time consultancy, Martha has served within the ICT sector for the last 16 years. She joined Kenya Data Networks (KDN) (now Liquid Telecom) in 2004 as an intern and rose up the ranks occupying various roles within the company. In 2010, she joined AccessKenya (now Internet Solutions) to establish and manage the Network Operation Centre (NOC) and Quality assurance functions in the company. She transitioned to Wananchi Group in 2014 as the NOC manager with the task of turning around a critical business function for improved service quality. 2017 saw Martha join WIOCC as the Quality Assurance manager with the objective of establishing a Quality Assurance function in the company to oversee all quality and audit matters in the company. In her most recent appointment, Martha joined Amiran Communications to head up Technical Operations and Projects. In this role, Martha led a team of 26 staff to execute, support and maintain large scale security and network projects within the COMESA region. Martha is an established consultant, having worked with Intercai (UK) and Summit Strategies Ltd (Kenya). Since 2007, she has developed and executed strategies for telcos, regulators, governments and multinationals. Martha holds a BSc in Information Systems & Technology (Hons) from USIU, Nairobi and an MSc in Telecommunications Engineering (Hons) from University of Leicester, UK. She is a member of ISACA and a certified CISA. Outside the world of work, Martha is an upcoming writer and chef who tests all works of art on her three lovely children before sharing with the world.
Hezron Nyagaka is the CEO and Co-founder of Cyburst Company Ltd. He attained his BSc in Information Systems & Technology from USIU and he has over 10 years of expertise in the WISP industry. His consultancy specialty is in Network Planning, Implementation and Maintainance.
John Gitau, Has been in the technology space for more than 15 years implementing large scale networks for Service Providers. He works at Cisco Systems with the Global Service Provider team. John has also been a trainer and steadfast supporter of community driven initiatives like the Network operator groups and their role in technical development.
